but this unofficial page gives some details I hope will be helpful.

UCSD teaches computer music as a research discipline within the context of a music department. For computer music faculty this means that, in addition to or even instead of creative work, we value research of the sort that might be presented in an ICMC paper. We have graduate students and undergraduates studying computer music and computing in the arts, and we also teach students in UCSD's composition program, who are often interested in, and savvy about, electronic techniques.

UCSD's computer music faculty is certainly the strongest anywhere. There are presently six computer music faculty here (Jerry Balzano (emeritus), Shlomo Dubnov, Tom Erbe, F. Richard Moore, Peter Otto, and me). In addition to CRCA (where this page lives) UCSD now has a truly exceptional music building with the best concert hall in southern California (incidentally equipped with 12 MeyerSound UPJs), and several other spaces that are out-and-out unique. I can say without exaggeration that this is the hippest locus anywhere in the world for doing computer music.

We're open to candidates practicing in fields such as musical signal processing, acoustics, psychoacoustics, or musical cognition, computer models of musical structures, human-computer interfaces in musical performance or composition, artificial intelligence in music, sound art, sound design, or the technology of music performance, production, or dissemination. We're especially looking for emerging fields, even if we don't know about them yet.

We strongly encourage applicants with diverse musical backgrounds who will contribute to our mission of advancing diversity and inclusion in our department and at UC San Diego.
